I have posted in my previous post about the trick to convert FLAC to mp3. However, what I have found that any file I can play in Winamp can be converted to mp3. Now the direct route may be little easy, but in my experience quality is very sketchy. For example when I convert a FLAC stream directly to mp3, the output is pretty choppy. However, FLAC to PCM stream is very nice and pure sounding.
Anyway, trick is, Winamp's Nulsoft Disk Writer Plugin. So whenever you play anything the Nulsoft plugin will convert the stream into PCM/mp3 format. Just go to Preference of Winamp.
Click configure,
You can select the output folder or leave it as the source directory. Under conversion tab, you can select none or play with the output encoder. Hit OK.
Now play any file of folder containing your media files in Winamp. There will be no sound output. In case of video file, there will be a video output which will move real fast (well, that depends on horsepower of your PC). Once the playback is done, go back to preference again and select Direct Sound output as preferred mode, else every time you play a file there will be no sound and there will be a copy of the file in your hard drive.
Enjoy!
